Google Play Says More Testing Is Required: What It Means

If Google tells you that your app requires more testing to access production, the 12/14-day checklist is necessary but not always sufficient. This page explains what the message means and how to plan the next testing cycle.

What the message means

Google says that after you apply for production access, your app may be required to continue testing. Its current guidance identifies fewer than 12 opted-in testers and insufficient tester engagement during the testing period as reasons additional testing may be required.

This means reaching day 14 is a milestone, not a guarantee of production access. The production request is reviewed separately.

Check the qualifying tester count

Confirm that at least 12 testers were opted in to the closed test continuously for the preceding 14 days when you apply. A large invitation list is not the same thing as 12 qualifying opted-in testers.

Check engagement

Google asks about tester engagement, what testers did with the app, what feedback they provided, and what you changed as a result. If your answers are vague or your testing evidence is weak, improve the next test rather than simply repeating the same process.

Run a stronger next cycle

Keep enough testers above the minimum to absorb dropouts, give testers clear instructions, collect useful feedback, monitor issues, and make meaningful fixes or improvements where appropriate. Keep records so your final answers describe what actually happened.

When to apply again

Follow the new testing period Google asks for, then review the application questions again. Do not treat the new cycle as a checkbox exercise; use it to demonstrate real testing and learning.
